Dear Future Client
I recently tried an exercise of writing a letter to future clients I hope come into my life. Typically, this would not be my type of thing. While I sometimes believe it’s important to put things out into the universe, I would say that I don’t fall into the stereotype of the typical LA resident—I can’t tell you what your zodiac means, or if Mercury is in retrograde, and I don’t have any crystals in my home.
Yet, I was drawn to this idea if I could find a way to make it useful to myself. So, here I am! I’ll be blunt: Are you or someone you know the below future client I’m writing to? If so, I want to hear from you! I’m in an active growth phase of my business and am loving what the world has brought me so far.
Dear Future Client,
Whether you are running your own business or a part of a larger organization, I’m here for you. Marketing and business strategy are hard. I’m here to be your confidant, sounding board, and friendly ear to help you get through and make decisions that are best for you and your business.
I don’t know who you are exactly, but I want you to know that if I start working with you, you aren’t just getting sound advice—you are getting a partner and a cheerleader. I want to be there for the big moments and the small ones and help get you through all of them.
I promise that I won’t always give you the easy answer, but I will give you the honest one. I also promise I won’t give you short-term solutions, instead, I’ll give you ones that will last your business a lifetime.
I really hate the people out there who promise quick growth and tell you how to “hack your way to a better business.” Just because it’s easy and works for a little bit, doesn’t mean it will work for a while. I want to build a foundation with you that is strong and flexible. That will grow with you. “Hacking” doesn’t do that.
I don’t know what you do exactly, as I find joy in working with a wide variety of clients and industries, and I get energy from learning about what you do. I want to become a subject matter expert in many industries because good marketing can apply to anyone.
Here’s what I do know: I want working with me to feel warm, strong, and happy! I want to help you feel at ease and like you’ve been invited to the best dinner party out there in a small group with my few other clients.
I’ve cultivated a group of clients who not only receive support from me, but who support each other, too, and who are equally my cheerleaders. I’m honored by that, and I want you to join those ranks. I’m not looking to grow huge; I’m looking to grow with the right people.
Mostly, future client, I want you to know that I’m excited to meet you. And I promise I will work hard on everything I do for you. I will always strive to bring my best to your table.
Sincerely,
Your future marketer
Lesson Learned: I’m asking the world for what I want, no matter how silly it feels. As my dad says, “If you don’t ask, you don’t get.” Well, I refuse to leave anything on the table. Fingers crossed that the universe hears me as loudly as you all do.
